VAKUUM
VAKUUM is a long-term observation that chronicles the Coronavirus pandemic in South-Burgenland, an eastern border region of Austria and the homeland of the filmmaker, through a jigsaw pieced together by diverse Protagonists.
The film grants a wide range of characters the space and time for reflection upon their present emotions and thoughts. From the catholic priest to the club owner, the confectioner, the innkeeper, the child educator and the elementary school children, the single mother and the elderly couple.
At the same time it portraits the state of a society ridden by the fear of emptiness, but which discovers new and unexpected perspectives on life.
Logline
The Coronavirus Crisis in South-Burgenland, the southernmost edge of Austria: uncertainty is spreading in the home region of the filmmaker. In VAKUUM she documents the longings and fears of the people caught between stagnation and the discovery of new perspectives in this exceptional year 2020.
